DISTRESSED Mandorah residents came across a scene of blood and guts on the jetty where this beautiful ray and shovel-nosed shark were left for dead after their tails were cut off and removed.

Wagait Beach resident Karen Duncan said it was “shocking” to come across the two creatures in the state they were in while catching the peak-hour ferry on Thursday morning.

“What we came across was two very big rays, a (shovel-nosed) shark with a big gash in his body and tail removed and laying on the back of him was a beautiful eagle ray,” she said.

“He was so pretty, his tail was removed, it looks like that was how they died – there was no other mark indicating how they could have been killed.”

Ms Duncan said there were some international fishos on the jetty who may have been to blame but they had said they didn’t know they should have removed the carcasses.

“That level of respect that other people who use the jetty have isn’t there – it’s pretty horrible,” she said.
