The Pilot of the Su-25 attack aircraft, Major Roman Filipov, was killed in Syria on February 3.

The airplane-attack aircraft of the Russian Air Force, which was operated by Filipov, was shot down by a portable air defense missile system in the airspace of Idlib governorate in north-west Syria.

The pilot tried to maneuver and leave the zone of defeat, but the control of the aircraft was violated. "When the MANPADS worked on the commander's car, all the conventions were discarded. I always covered the commander in the air, I had to do it on the ground, when he had already taken the fight. Remained in this area and carried out several attacks, worked on the machines that were approaching the olive grove where Roman was. Destroyed two cars, "- said about the incident partner Philipova, covering his commander at the time of the attack.

Filipov managed to catapult from a plane hit by terrorists. Once on the ground, he was surrounded by militants, but, not wanting to give up, blew himself up with a hand grenade. According to some sources, before this he managed to shoot two terrorists.

In the network came the video recording of the last battle of the Russian pilot - on the video you can hear that Filipov's last words were "This is for you guys!"

For his heroism, Filipov was posthumously presented to the title of Hero of Russia - Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced on February 5 award.

The next day, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree conferring the title of Hero of Russia to Roman Filipov. "For the heroism, courage and bravery shown in the performance of military duty, to confer the title of Hero of the Russian Federation to Major Filipov Roman Nikolaevich (posthumously)," the presidential decree says.

The body of Filipov was delivered to his homeland on February 5 thanks to the joint efforts of Russia and Syria. The mediator in the negotiations with the terrorists was the Turkish side. In addition to the body of the Russian pilot, fragments of a plane shot down by militants were delivered to Moscow - Moscow noted that they will continue to cooperate with Turkey in order to obtain all the fragments of the Su-25. The most important thing is to get the engine into which the rocket hit - on it military experts will be able to determine what type of MANPADS was used by the militants.
