Will Theresa May be given concessions in Brussels on the backstop?

Stephan Mayer, German interior minister, says: "I'm deeply convinced we should do everything to find a solution. Certainly, one thing is clear, there is no room for changing the treatment, the agreement itself. But I'm deeply convinced the EU27 should be open to push forward clarifications, especially with regard to the backstop."

There's no room for amendments on the legal treaty, but the EU should consider clarifications to avoid a hard Brexit, he says.

"This must be the main objective for both sides," he says.
