Authorities in India have found 10 bodies, blindfolded and hanging from the ceiling of a house in New Delhi and another body of a 70-year-old woman on the floor.

Police officer Vineet Kumar said all of the deceased belonged to a family and most had lived in one home in Burari village in the northern part of New Delhi.

Ten of the bodies were found hanging from the ceiling, while a 70-year-old woman was found dead on the floor of the house, Mr Kumar said.

All were sent for an autopsy on Sunday (local time).

Detectives are now probing whether the family died by suicide or were killed, he said. No suicide note has been found, Mr Kumar said.

There were no bullet marks on the bodies of seven women and four men.
