A DETERMINED leaf blower has been filmed busily tidying side walks - despite gusts of 90mph wind sweeping across the country.

Bizarre footage was posted to social media after a punter spotted one man going about his business outside an apartment block in Dublin as Storm Ali hits today.

Despite the blustery conditions - blowing leaves everywhere - the video shows the man soldiering on regardless.

The Twitter user who filmed the odd clip said: "He was very seriously gathering leaves in the storm.

"I saw no sign of devilment in his face. Nothing hinders the maintenance dept."

A second leaf blower was spotted in Dublin, with Kevin Halpin sharing a video of the determined worker with the comment: "#StormAli A leaf blower?? Have a day off."

The clips have attracted a hilarious reaction on social media, with many quipping over the futility of the task.

One wrote: "If you ever feel bad about your job.. there is a guy outside my office with a leaf blower fighting a losing battle."

But others praised the man's efforts, writing: "Tip of the cap to guy working a leaf blower around Citywest in Storm Ali #NotAllHeroesWearCapes"

It comes as powerful gusts of wind have sparked a danger to life warning as the storm sweeps across the country today.

There is a nationwide yellow alert that remains in place as the orange warning, which was issued for 17 counties, ceased at 1pm.

Debris could be sent flying and power could be cut as the storm's strong gusts surge across the UK and Ireland.

Forecasters have warned commuters could face travel chaos as branches are pulled from trees and tiles ripped from roofs in the strong winds.

Meteorologist Simon Partridge said winds had already reached 87mph in Mace Head, Ireland, adding: "The strong winds have only started to arrive."

Motorists are being urged only to travel "if absolutely necessary" as trees are falling throughout the country, with rural parts being the worst affected.

But even areas outside of the weather warnings are unlikely to escape the wet and windy conditions.

News of Ali comes after Storm Helene's strong gusts knocked out power for communities.

Almost 200 homes in Cornwall were forced to call in engineers early yesterday morning.
