A MAN who sued his ex-bosses over hearing loss at work is facing jail after videos revealed him fronting a band in pubs.

Retired fridge engineer David Romaine, 69, claimed his deafness was work-related because he had no noisy hobbies.

But he was unmasked as the lead singer and guitarist with Essex rockabilly band The 501s, the High Court was told.

He also had a passion for noisy motorcycles, it emerged.

A website for his band says Mr Romaine shared stages with legendary rockers Slade and comic Jasper Carrott as a young man and gigged in a folk band.

Zurich Insurance wants the dad locked up for contempt as his £5,000 claim stated that he had no noisy pastimes.

When videos online showed him playing at pubs and festivals in the South East with his Basildon band, he dropped his case saying he had got poor legal advice.

But a judge has said there is “good evidence” that false statements were made deliberately.

Judgment on the Zurich appeal has been reserved.
