A HUSBAND and wife both died of stab wounds following a domestic incident at their home, police say.

Officers say the pair - named locally as Craig Stewart and Natalie Louise Smith - died in "tragic and complex circumstances" at their house in Bristol.

Paramedics battled to save a man at the scene at 5pm on Thursday, November 8.

A woman was rushed to hospital where she remained in a critical condition until she passed away on Friday.

Following the tragedy, police confirmed that both people had died of stab wounds following what is understood to be a domestic incident.

The street was cordoned off as police forensic investigators began their work.

On Saturday Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman confirmed the mother had died, saying: "A woman who suffered serious injuries following an incident at a property in Redfield sadly died in hospital last night, Friday 9 November."

The couple are understood to have lived at the address where the incident took place on Cambridge Street in the Redfield area of south Bristol.

Police confirmed they were treating the stabbing "an isolated incident" and confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the crime.

On Saturday Senior Investigating Officer DI Mike Buck said: "We would like to thank the local residents for their support during the initial stages of our investigation.

"Two people have lost their lives in tragic and complex circumstances and our thoughts are very much with their families.

"We would like to thank people for their patience while we continue our investigation in order to unpick those circumstances and fully understand what happened.
