A DAD claims he was arrested for trying to take his bullied eight-year-old son out of primary school.

Shaun Mulchinock was taken into custody for "threatening behaviour" after trying to speak to his son Jamie's head teacher at his Hull school.

And the dad has now pulled his son out of Francis Askew Primary School, saying one particularly bad bullying incident had seen the little boy hospitalised with a haemorrhage behind his eye.

He told Hull Live: "He’s been punched and kicked. The lad has not had it easy and he’s behind with all his schooling anyway. One of them will run up to him and kick him and then he’ll go up to them ask why they’ve done it and he’ll get kicked by two others.

"It’s getting beyond a joke so I’ve taken them out."

He said he believed he was arrested as he was seen holding a "concrete turtle ornament" - which could have been perceived as a weapon.

The dad was arrested at the school on Friday, with staff saying they did not tolerate "threatening behaviour".

But the dad said he simply wanted to talk to the school about his son's struggles, saying the bullying had been going on for more than a year.

The school said: "We will not tolerate threatening behaviour towards our staff. The safety and welfare of our staff and children are an absolute priority.

"The school takes reports of bullying incredibly seriously and any suggestion of bullying is investigated thoroughly."

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "A man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, namely threatening behaviour, following an incident at a school on North Road in Hull on Friday, November 30.

"He was taken into custody and has since been cautioned and released.”
