A US police officer’s body worn camera has filmed the dramatic moment a man was thrown head first off a bridge in Florida.

Daytona police officer Christopher Maher was driving over the Main Street bridge just before 5pm local time on Sunday when he spotted two people in a fight.

As he drove closer, his camera captured a man, believed to be 21-year-old Derrick Goodin, appearing to lift the other man from his legs and tipping him over the bridge into the Halifax River, a nine metre drop.

Then the footage shows the officer jump into action.

“On the ground! On the f***ing ground,” the officer can be heard yelling.

Officer Maher pointed his gun at Goodin and yelled at him to get on his bell.

Goodin appeared to throw a wallet out of his pocket into the water before getting onto the ground.

But denied throwing the man off the bridge.

“He jumped off the bridge,” Goodin can be heard yelling.

But officer Maher replied that he saw him and it was caught on camera.

The vision showed more police officers arriving, as Goodin yells while on the ground.

Police said the incident happened when the victim stepped in when he saw Goodin allegedly slap a woman.

The Daytona Beach News Journal has reported 33-year-old Anthony Mascaro as the victim.

Police said he received cuts to his head and was able to swim for help.

Goodin was charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm, battery and breach of the peace after the police officer saw the incident.
