There’s been a scary sight at a car park in Santa Monica.

A car left dangling dangerously off the fourth floor of the 1400 block of 4th street.

It’s understood a woman was trying to park at about 10:30am, when she hit the accelerator instead of the break, propelling her vehicle over the edge.

Safety cables stopped the Honda sedan from plummeting to the ground, but the vehicle hung suspended for over an hour.

It took an urban search and rescue team, and firefighters several minutes to stabilise the Honda and rescue it from the edge.

A French tourist helped to pull the woman, believed to be in her 60s, to safety.

Authorities say her rescuer doesn’t want attention for his heroic act.
