A BRITISH mum has died in front of her daughter in a banana boat accident on a family holiday in Egypt.

The woman, thought to be in her 50s or 60s, had to be pulled from the water after the inflatable flipped and reportedly trapped her underneath.

The tragic death happened in Hurghada on August 28 - exactly a week after a British couple were mysteriously found dead in their hotel room in the same resort.

Thomas Cook said it is now investigating after it emerged the woman was on a holiday booked through the travel firm when the incident occurred.

One holidaymaker - who was on the boat at the time - told how the group had been on a dolphin-watching tour before they took turns to ride inflatables on the way back to shore.

The man, who did not wish to be named, told The Sun Online how the banana boat flipped after the speedboat "bombed out" on the water.

All riders were thrown from the inflatable but he said the victim remained "trapped" underneath.

He eventually saw her pulled from the water and rushed back to the main boat where passengers desperately performed CPR.

He told the Sun Online: "I could hear the woman's daughter wailing, as she knew that there was something seriously wrong with her mum.

"They got the lady back on an they were doing chest compressions, but at no point were there any breaths given.

"I'm screaming at them 'open her airways' but they pushed me back."

The British witness, an ex-army veteran, said a doctor was brought to the boat but the woman could not be saved.

He told the Sun Online another woman on the banana boat said the victim was trapped under the inflatable for a matter of minutes.

The dolphin-watching tour has been suspended while investigations take place.

A Thomas Cook spokesman said: “We can confirm that one of our customers sadly died last week while on an excursion in Egypt.

"We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family, and our welfare team continue to do all they can to support them at this time.

"We are urgently investigating what happened.”

The Foreign Office confirmed the death of a woman in the Egypt holiday resort.

A spokesman said: “Our staff are assisting the family of a British woman who has died in Hurghada.”

It comes just a week after British couple John and Susan Cooper died at the nearby five-star Steigenberger Aqua Magic hotel.

Their daughter Kelly Ormerod, who came back from a walk to find her dad dead and mum dying, claims there was a "funny smell" in their room. It has still not been confirmed how the pair died but has been suggested they may have been gassed to death by poisonous fumes after the neighbouring hotel room was fumigated.

Others have since come forward with tales of their horror holidays at the same resort, with it emerging Thomas Cook gave a family £26,000 in compensation following a stay in 2016.

And last week we reported how British man was feared dead in Portugal after being thrown from a banana boat and hitting his head while on holiday.
