BRITAIN will need to replace over 40 gory images used in fag packs to encourage people to quit the habit under a ‘No Deal’.

The European Commission owns the copyright to the images of tooth decay, diseased lung and throat cancer. Effectively, a ‘No Deal’ would mean the UK having to replace these with its own snaps.

The revelation will be in the mass of briefing notes released over the next month to detail the contingency plans for a collapse in talks.

Both the UK and EU want to sign an outline agreement for future trade relationship by October.

Without a deal all existing agreements will effectively cease to exist from March 29 – Brexit day.

EU laws approved in 2014 introduced health warnings on the front and the back of fag packs.

The anti-smoking crackdown also forced the UK to ban menthol cigarettes and 10-packs.
