The European Union is forced to buy from Russia a record amount of gas due to abnormal cold weather. This is reported by the agency Bloomberg.

According to the agency, prices for Russian gas have tripled and reached a record level. It is noted that European countries, especially Great Britain, "rely more and more on Russia in meeting their energy needs." The agency specified that next week, Russian tankers with cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will go to the shores of the kingdom. The fact that Russia will supply LNG from the Yamal LNG project of NOVATEK to Britain due to the arrival of the Emma storm to Europe, the Financial Times reported.

"We are seeing the coldest end of winter in the last few years, and Russia is the only supplier that has enough reserves to meet the sharp demand for gas," said meteorologist Giacomo Masato. The agency notes that Norway, which ranks second in terms of gas supplies to the EU, does not cope with supply because of technical problems.

The day before the EU expressed concern over the procedure for the severance of contracts between Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine in connection with the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration. Then the court ordered Gazprom to pay Naftogaz $ 4.63 billion for gas shortage under the transit agreement. In response, the Russian company said that it was terminating all contracts with Naftogaz. In the Ukrainian company, this step was considered a "Kremlin decision". At the same time, Energy Minister Alexander Novak in a telephone conversation with European Commissioner Maros Shefovic said that gas supplies from Russia to Europe "will remain as reliable as in the past."
