    A few questions about HDD/VPN

I’m getting into private trackers and recently purchased 4 tB external HD not a NAS is this ok? And can I still use Plex from anywhere in the world with this drive? My current speeds are 400mbs on home network but when I use a vpn this goes down to to about 60MBs so speeds are much slower. Should I still use a VPN

I use several external HDD's, not a NAS, and I do fine.
If you download copyrighted materials, it's best to use a VPN so that copyright trolls don't contact your ISP.

    hi @Insaniak
I recommend to get a wd red nas for streaming, if you stream from simultaneous devices in the house the speed wont be that much low with a wd red pro 7200 rpm 256mb cache. just share the content with plex over the network not the internet. if you use kodi to stream content you can share the drive or use dlna streaming server to share the drive over your network. you can watch the content on any device over your network with dlna.

    Hi there fella

I run a plex server and a member of the family has an almost identical setup to yours, he only have a 12mb upload speed so cvers all our SD needs and it streams like a dream from an external 3.0 usb external drive.

Just remember to ensure that your server is accessible outside of your network (you can see this in green under settings in plex) if its not then you may have to open ports bud

    Happy streaming man

Thank you! I decided to not go with nas but it’s very strange I get the content in my phone and can connect but not on my tv.
