You're right, I was having this debate with someone else. It's mostly the language of the interface, which more or less translates to the nature/origin of content. Where it's hosted, or the country of its creator, are irrelevant.

That's why in my original post, I said,

"Of course it doesn't always make sense to list or categorize a tracker under a certain country, but for those cases where it does, this is THE list that you want to check out."

For a lot of trackers, we won't even categorize them by country because it just doesn't make sense. I guess this applies to most of the 'U.S' trackers on the list you sent.

@fiorentini - Yeah, but then again almost every tracker has an English interface. So that's not a sign either. Personally, I think a tracker's nativity should be defined by the person (or group of people) who birthed it in the first place. That's what origin means to me, anyway. So basically, if I'm an American from California, I'd pretty much categorize my theoretical tracker as Californian, or U.S. based. Because I'm the originator. My two cents.

If you look closely at the list, it'll make more sense to you. It's actually not true that every tracker has an English interface. Pretty much every tracker on that list has its main interface in the language of its native country, English may or may not be an option - that depends on the tracker.

If we try to track the origin of the person or group who started the tracker, that's a different task for a different purpose, and it's not what I intended with this list. You could, for example, be an Australian person of Chinese origins, and you started an Australian-hosted tracker with a Chinese interface that offers both Chinese & English content. To me, that's a Chinese tracker, not an Australian one. Primary (native) language + nature of content is what defines the identify of a tracker, at least that's how I see it.

As for trackers available only in English with content primarily in the English language, these are harder to categorize or trace to a country, and frankly, it's less important / makes less sense to try and categorize where it's from. That's why the table will not include every tracker out there

@fiorentini - I totally agree that it's a tedious task to categorize them by my standards. I said almost every tracker, and what I meant was that even the non-English ones, at least some (if not most) of them, have an English version. Also, I get your analogy, but I concur - for me it'd be an Australian tracker, regardless if I'm ethnically Chinese or not, haha. Either way, we're getting carried away from the topic. It's a good thread and I'm genuinely curious about the essence of it. Thank you for bringing it up!

@buzzit Last post about this just to clarify things for future readers.

I didn't mean ethnically, I meant nature of content. If I told you that ToTheGlory or M-Team TP were started by an American and are hosted in the US. That won't make them American trackers (even though parts of their interface are in English), they're still Chinese trackers because of their primary interface language and content (even though they have sizeable content in English, they're still Chinese trackers).

Another example, and this is an actual example I got to learn about very recently, HDBits is hosted in India (or uses an Indian domain, one of the two), 90%+ of its staff are Indian, and people believe, but dunno for sure, that's its SYSOP is Indian. Now does that make it an Indian tracker? Nope, makes no sense. This is an example of a tracker where trying to categorize it under a certain country makes no sense.

Let's reverse that example - DesiTorrents, it's a tracker for Indian content form many different regions of India. Sure, it's in English, but that's because English is the universal language of India. If I tell you that its SYSOP / Owner is Australian, and i'ts hosted in France, does that make it Australian or French? Nope, makes no sense. It's still an Indian tracker.

That's the whole point behind this post - Simplify, not complicate.
