Nationals former top prospect A.J. Cole is getting a new start.

The Yankees announced Monday they acquired the right-handed pitcher from the Nationals in exchange for cash considerations.

Cole, 26, made four appearances (two starts) with the Nationals this season, going 1-1 with a 13.06 ERA and was designated for assignment earlier this month.

Cole was originally selected by the Nationals in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. Washington saw potential in Cole's high-90s fastball and signed him to a $2 million bonus. He was traded to Oakland in 2011 before being reacquired by the Nats.

Over four MLB seasons Cole is 5-8 with a 5.32 ERA and will join the Yankees' 25-man roster as a long relief pitcher.
Right-handed pitcher David Hale was designated for assignment in the corresponding roster move
