Full-time Australian cricket captain, part-time Hobart Hurricanes recruiter?

Tim Paine took his banter to a new level late on day three of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

The witty gloveman did his best to help his Big Bash franchise Hobart out, attempting to recruit hard-hitting Indian ‘keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant during a Nathan Lyon over.

Veteran MS Dhoni will take the gloves for India during the upcoming One-Day International series against Australia, meaning Pant might have some free time after the Test series wraps up in Sydney early in the New Year.

And Paine wasn’t going to let the opportunity go to waste.

“Big MS (Dhoni) is back in the one-day squad too, we might get him (Pant) down to the Hurricanes... we need a batter,” Paine was heard saying on the stump mic.

“Fancy that, Pantsy? Extend your little Aussie holiday. Beautiful town Hobart too, I’ll get you a nice apartment on the waterfront.

“(I’ll) have him over for dinner. Can you babysit? I’ll take the wife to the movies one night and you’ll look after the kids.”

Paine’s hilarious recruiting pitch didn’t go unnoticed from the Channel 7 commentary team.

“The banter that Tim Paine has provided has been liquid gold,” James Brayshaw said.

The Tasmanian has been second-to-none in the banter department this series, with his cheeky sledge to Murali Vijay about Indian captain Virat Kohli during the second Test in Perth an absolute classic.

“I know he's your captain but you can't seriously like him as a bloke,” Paine said.

Don’t ever change, Tim.
