Police have charged three men after a shootout in Lexington, Ky., that resulted in the death of Trinity Gay, the 15-year-old daughter of U.S. Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported .

Caught in the crossfire between two vehicles, Trinity was hit in the neck about 4 a.m. on Sunday and died in a hospital in Lexington later that day. Police do not believe she was in either of the vehicles.

Dvonta Middlebrooks is accused by police of firing multiple shots during the incident and was charged for wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Chazerae Taylor, 38, and his 19-year-old son, D’Markeo, also face wanton endangerment charges.

Like her father, Trinity was an outstanding sprinter

“It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” Tyson Gay told Lexington TV station WLEX on Sunday.

Both Trinity and Tyson attended Lafayette High School, where counselors will be available Monday to help grieving students and staff.
