Texas coach Shaka Smart let out all the emotion of a day packed with it after the final buzzer sounded Wednesday night in Austin.

Smart's sustained yell after the Longhorns' 99-98 double-overtime win over No. 16 TCU summed up the program's feelings on a difficult night to take the court.

Hours earlier, the university announced sophomore guard Andrew Jones had been diagnosed with leukemia.

Longhorns players Eric Davis Jr. and Eric Osetkowski held up Jones' jersey to the crowd in his honor after the victory. As the band played the UT alma mater, the team thought about the fight Jones is about to go through.

"He's obviously just starting his fight but there's nobody I know that's a stronger fighter than him," Smart said after the game. "I just, all game long, was thinking about him and what he would say to the guys, to our team. And I'm really proud of the way that our guys followed an approach and a mindset of playing for each other and playing for Andrew."

Jones was close to their hearts in another, more tangible way: A patch displaying his initials and uniform number was added to their jerseys.
