THE Sydney Swans have put a “very nice” offer forward to acquire Collingwood defender Tom Langdon, reports AFL journalist Damian Barrett.

Langdon is out of contract with the Magpies at season’s end and has only been offered a contract for 2019, following the Grand Final.

“The offer officially only came through Tuesday of last week — after the Grand Final,” Barrett said on The Trade Table.
“We have drawn the linkage between that occurring — and also Darcy Moore re-signing — with the pursuit of Steven May and the likelihood now that May wants to go and will go to the Melbourne footy club.”

“Collingwood needed to sure up what they’ve got, so it has caused issues. Bottom line is he likes Collingwood, loves the people around him too, he does want to stay.

“But there are other clubs having knocked on the door — Fremantle during the course of the season and I believe quite significantly the Sydney Swans quite recently have put a very nice potential offer to him.

“Collingwood’s money is okay, I think it will get close to the Fremantle offer of around $600,000 a year, which I think is fair money for Tom Langdon.”

Essendon great Matthew Lloyd explained this time last year he would’ve thought that deal was “overs” for Langdon, but his rapid improvement in 2018 means that it would be a solid deal.

“I would’ve thought it was overs 12 months ago Damo, but now he can play tall, he can play small. Intercept players in the modern game are so important.” Lloyd said on The Trade Table.

TIGERS COY ON LETTING FRINGE PLAYERS GO
Richmond football manager Neil Balme has provided an update on the futures of fringe players Sam Lloyd, Jacob Townsend and Brandon Ellis.

Lloyd has been linked to a move with the Western Bulldogs, with Dogs list manager Sam Power confirming their interest on the opening day of trade period.

Sam Lloyd:
“I think Lloyd’s been talking to the Western Bulldogs,” Balme told SEN’s Time On.

“We would support that if that is what he really wanted to do. He played well enough to play a lot more games as well, so we’ll see what happens there.”

Jacob Townsend:
“I’m not sure what the interest is.”

“We wouldn’t be unhappy to keep him, but we’ll see what happens there.”

Brandon Ellis:
“Brandon Ellis is certainly contracted and very much required.”

“But nothing is certain these days of course, but no-one’s actually banged the door down for him at this stage.

“We’d be very keen to keep him, we don’t really want to lose any more players I wouldn’t think.”
