QUEENSLAND coach Kevin Walters admits Daly Cherry-Evans probably won’t be selected in the Australian team at the end of the season.

Walters ended Cherry-Evans’ Origin exile this year when he recalled the halfback to the Maroons side.

And while DCE will be in contention for the Kangaroos’ trip to New Zealand later this year, Walters thinks national coach Mal Meninga will baulk at his selection because Manly isn’t involved in NRL finals.

“Maybe DCE will get there, I’m not saying he wouldn’t do the jersey justice, but knowing the way Mal thinks I’d imagine it would be someone who is playing finals,” Walters told Triple M on Sunday.

Australia will tour New Zealand and Walters was asked who he believes will be playing in the halves for the green and gold.

He’s tipping his Queensland superstar Cameron Munster, and NSW veteran James Maloney to get the nod in Meninga’s side.

He threw up Maloney’s Penrith teammate Nathan Cleary as an outside chance.

“Nathan Cleary is going to play in finals … Cameron Munster will probably be there,” Walters said.

“I’d go with Munster and Maloney in the halves for Australia. I think those two can get the job done against New Zealand and Tonga.

“I think it’s going to be someone from that finals series.”
