Amanadeep Khare compiled a crucial fifty for Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh vs Mumbai, Alur

A washout midway through the Chhattisgarh-Mumbai quarterfinal has sent the 2018 finalists Mumbai crashing out of the tournament. Chhattisgarh will now play holders Karnataka in the semifinals at the Chinnaswamy stadium on October 23.

Mumbai were in complete control of the proceedings at the start after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl. Dhawal Kulkarni, who finished with exceptional figures of 8-4-9-2 was all over the batting side as Chattisgarh were slow off the blocks. Ashutosh Singh joined forces with his skipper Harpreet Singh to arrest the early slide with a defiant 37-run stand off 93 balls. Shivam Dube broke that stand, but Chhattisgarh's in-form batter Amandeep Khare joined Harpreet for a bigger partnership that dug their side out of trouble. They both scored fifties in a 135-run partnership for the fourth wicket that came off 143 runs.

Harpreet fell for an excellent 83 in 43rd over, right before rain stopped play with Chattisgarh on 190 for 6 in 45.4 overs. With rain not relenting soon, the first innings ended there and the VJD method brought forward a recalibrated target of 192 in 40 overs for Mumbai.

Though the second innings began, rain was always around the corner, which explained the approach taken by young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Aditya Tare scored a run-a-ball 31 while the 17-year-old smashed five fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 60 of 38 balls. Mumbai snared nearly half the target - reaching 95/0 in 11.3 overs - only for rain to return and render their superlative effort meaningless. There would be no more play, and by virtue of winning more games in the league stage - 5 to Mumbai's 4 - Chattisgarh made it through.

Brief Scores: Chattisgarh190 for 6 in 45.4 overs (Harpreet Singh 83, Amandeep Khare 59*; Dhawal Kulkarni 2-9) vs Mumbai 95/0 in 11.3 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 60*, Aditya Tare 31*). No result. Chhattisgarh go through go through on the basis of more league stage wins.

Punjab vs Tamil Nadu, Alur

Punjab were hit by a similarly distressing fate as Tamil Nadu, who bossed the league stage with a 100 percent win record, marched ahead despite their quarterfinal ending with a no result. Tamil Nadu will face Gujarat in the semifinal at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru on October 23.

Expectedly, Punjab asked Tamil Nadu to bat first, who needed their No.3 batsman Baba Aparajith to steady the early wobble with a patient half-century. Vijay Shankar and Dinesh Karthik couldn't add to Aparajith's effort but Washington Sundar chipped in, with a resourceful unbeaten 35 off 39 that helped Tamil Nadu to 174 for 6 in 39 overs when the showers came down. Punjab were asked to chase a revised target of 195 in the same number of overs.

That though was a distant dream as the rains came down once again into just the 13th over of Punjab's riposte and ended the game right there. With Punjab having won only five games in the league stage, they bowed out of the tournament.

Brief Scores: Tamil Nadu174/6 in 39 overs (Baba Aparajith 56; Mayank Markande 2-26) vs Punjab 52/2 in 12.2 overs (Sanvir Singh 21). No Result. Tamil Nadu go through on the basis of more league stage wins.
