The gap in talent between the NBA and NBL looked like the Grand Canyon today as the Utah Jazz wiped the floor with the Perth Wildcats during their pre-season game.

The Jazz dominated from the tip-off and won 128-67 in their first appearance of the pre-season.

Playing without captain Damian Martin (calf) and centre Angus Brandt (ankle), the Wildcats had no answers.

They started poorly, conceding the first 15 points and missing their first six shots before Mitch Norton opened Perth’s account.

The Jazz took that momentum and put on a show to lead by 31 points at quarter time and extended that to 43 during the second quarter.

The muti-million dollar Jazz played like their pay packets. Rudy Gobert tore the Wildcats apart with 10 points and seven rebounds in the first quarter. The 216cm giant played only 15 minutes but still managed 14 points and nine rebounds.

Grayson Allen lived up to the hype surrounding him in his first appearance since being selected with pick 21 in the 2018 draft. The crowd roared when he entered the game and went wild as he quickly scored 14 points.

Allen then endeared himself to the home crowd with a desperate diving effort during the third quarter before finishing with a game high 19 points from 22 minutes.

Excitement machine Donovan Mitchell produced a massive block on Cotton and then took the lead to 50 points. The Jazz hit the 100-point milestone late in the third quarter and burst past a 60-point lead late in the match.

Australian Dante Exum scored three points and had six assists.

The Jazz guarded Cotton closely but he still top scored for Perth with 14 points and five rebounds.

Cotton and Terrico White were off target and went to half-time having converted only three of their 18 field goal attempts.

White scored eight points but shot at only 19 per cent.

The bigger NBA court had a huge impact on Perth’s three-point shooting. Perth managed four three-pointers from 29 attempts compared to Utah’s 16 from 38.

Clint Steindl and Rhys Vague both converted two three-point attempts.

Vague scored eight points and had seven rebounds in another encouraging display from the former development player.

Mitch Norton also scored eight points while Nick Kay finished 10 points and six rebounds.

The Wildcats called on American pair Jacob Pullen and Eric Stuteville to replace Martin and Brandt.

But Perth used them sparingly and gave the opportunities to their own players to experience the NBA stage.
