BULLETS matchwinner Cameron Gliddon insists the “Sunshine Stoush” is not about him despite his 171 games for Cairns before linking with Brisbane in the NBL off-season.

The orange singlet of the Taipans will be very familiar to Gliddon at the Brisbane Convention Centre Saturday night.

But with Cairns making eight changes to its playing roster over winter and hiring new head coach Mike Kelly, it is not the Taipans squad that the sweet-shooting Boomers guard identifies with.

Gliddon scored the most-ever points by a player on their Bullets debut with a career-high 29 points — to go with six rebounds, two assists and two steals — in Brisbane’s impressive win over New Zealand on Thursday night.

He hit five three-pointers from 10 attempts as part of the record 13 triples from Brisbane who must now face a fresh and focused Taipans in their first outing of the 2018-19 NBL season.

Gliddon said building on the momentum from the 13-point Auckland triumph was his only concern Saturday — not facing his old club.

“It’s just another game now. You can’t look at it any other way. It’s our first home game of the season and we want to take care of business,’’ he said.

“No matter who it is against, we have to defend our home court to build on our good start.

“It’s a completely different team and a different coach in Cairns now. It’s just another team and another chance to get a win.’’

Brisbane made a habit of surrendering fourth quarter leads last season on the way to consecutive wooden spoons but the Bullets held firm in the dying minutes against the Breakers with Gliddon, Cam Bairstow, Mika Vukona and imports Alonzo Gee and Stephen Holt all playing pivotal roles in the win.

The Bullets also weathered an early storm when they shot at just 33 per cent from the field while the Breakers enjoyed a much healthier clip of over 50 per cent.

Brisbane’s offensive rebounding kept them in the contest in the first half with their defensive intensity and vastly improved shooting lifting them to a confidence boosting victory after a wretched off-season.

“We are going to be compared to last year’s team but like Cairns, we are pretty much a new team too with a whole lot of new guys. We are on our own path,’’ Gliddon said.

“We got down early but we didn’t panic. We knew it was going to be a 40-minute grind and everybody played their role well to close it out.

“To have that adversity and stick with each other is testament to our (pre-season) camp.’’

The two Queensland clubs played a pre-season match in Rockhampton when the Taipans cruised to victory but both line-ups were well below full strength.
