Atdhe Nuhiu scored in each half as Sheffield Wednesday won the all-Championship fourth-round tie with Reading at Hillsborough.

The Kosovo forward put the Owls ahead with a clinical finish after Reading's defence was caught out by Frederico Venancio's ball over the top.

Owls keeper Cameron Dawson denied Jon Dadi Bodvarsson an equaliser before Nuhiu made it 2-0 from close range.

George Boyd added the third, with a Dawson own goal Reading's consolation.

Only one place separates the two teams in the table yet Jos Luhukay's Wednesday, who are 17th, were far superior to the 18th-placed Royals.

However it could have been a different story had former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards not been denied by Dawson after being sent clean through in the fifth minute.

Yann Kermorgant wasted another chance for Jaap Stam's visitors when he mis-hit in front of goal after Bodvarsson's cross.

Those misses proved crucial as Wednesday scored with their first serious chance, Nuhiu coolly finishing from an angle from inside the area.

The former Rapid Vienna forward doubled the lead from six yards moments after Dawson had produced another excellent save to frustrate Iceland forward Bodvarsson, who scored a hat-trick against Stevenage in the previous round.

Boyd scored the third with Reading keeper Anssi Jaakkola out of position before the visitors got a late goal.

A deflected cross hit the post but Dawson got the last touch as the ball spun over the line.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay:

"Reading gave us problems in the first half, they had a couple of chances but we have a fantastic goalkeeper.

"In the right moments, we took our chances to score. We hope these games give the team confidence in the coming matches and of course for the next round."

Reading boss Jaap Stam:

"I felt we played quite well to be honest.

"But if you are helping the opposition by losing that ball then it is going to be very difficult to win."

On his side's run of one win in 11 games: " That's how it goes at times. Everyone is working hard to turn it around."
