AFC Wimbledon midfielder Jake Nicholson has signed a new long-term contract at the League Two club.

The 21-year-old joined the Dons in February after leaving Scottish side Morton, but the move proved controversial after he was found to have played while ineligible, costing the club three points.

However, Nicholson's subsequent performances have earned a new deal at Kingsmeadow.

Assistant manager Neil Cox told the club website: "Jake showed a really good appetite for the game at the end of last season.

"Jake is going to be one of our midfielders for next season and he will be pushing the others hard. Though he is one for the future, from day one of pre-season Jake has to push for a spot in the team."

Striker Tom Beere, 19, has also been handed his first pro contract.
