AUSTRALIA may have already seen Indian captain MS Dhoni in action for the last time after he was dropped from India’s Twenty20 squad.

India revealed its T20 and Test teams on Friday night and didn’t name the 37-year-old who hadn’t been dropped since establishing himself as one of the nation’s greats.

His wicketkeeping duties will be filled by exciting 21-year-old Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.

Meanwhile, a number of changes from the Test team that played the West Indies earlier this month were also announced.

Experienced right-hander Rohit Sharma has been recalled to the Test arena after being overlooked since January. He earned his recall after recently finding some impressive one-day form.

Since September, Sharma has made 473 runs at 118.25 across seven one-day matches, including two centuries and a high-score of 152 not out.

His last trip to Australia for a Test series (2014) wasn’t so successful though, making 173 runs at 28.83.

Australia will also get its first look at teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw this summer.

The 18-year-old announced his arrival in Test cricket in emphatic style earlier this month.

He became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut, making 134 against the West Indies in Rajkot.

At 18 years and 329 days, he became the seventh youngest centurion in Test cricket history and the second youngest Indian centurion, only behind Sachin Tendulkar.

He backed up the scintillating innings with scores of 70 and 33 not out.

Making way in the Test squad is opener Shikhar Dhawan, who fell out of favour with selectors after a poor series in England (162 runs at 20.25). Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina have also been left out.

On the bowling front, India will bring spin trio Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Unsurprisingly, they will be partnered with quicks Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Virat Kohli will captain both Test and Twenty20 squads, with Sharma being announced as vice-captain.
