MANCHESTER UNITED fans think they have they have uncovered the club’s new director of football as Patrice Evra.

Old Trafford executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is preparing to appoint a linkman between Jose Mourinho and the board to overseeing transfers.

A number of high-profile names, like Monchi, Fabio Paratici and Edwin Van der Sar, have been linked.

But the French full-back’s reoccurring position next to Woodward on the directors’ box this season has got imaginations racing.

Evra, 37, spent eight years at United before briefer stints at Juventus and Marseille before joining current club West Ham.

The popular social media star is also fluent in French, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, which would be very handy negotiating deals across Europe.

Fans who have spotted Evra alongside Woodward this season seem keen on the idea that he could be the man to help Mourinho land his targets in January and the summer.

Joe Sillett said: “Patrice Evra has now sat next to Ed Woodward for the last 3 games running, having never sat next to him before.

“There is something going on here. Uncle Pat is warming up for a return to Old Trafford but in what capacity and with who? #MUFC

Mike Gainston said: “Thats not the first time uncle pat @Evra sat with ed woodward in a match day. Something new is going on.

“@Evra do you have anything to comment about. Any new position available dor you? @manutd ??”
