Manchester City substitutes Jesus Navas and James Milner recovered a 4-2 victory at Fulham on Saturday after the visitors threw away a two-goal lead in the Premier League.

Yaya Toure put City in front with his fourth goal from a free kick this season and captain Vincent Kompany fired in City's second before halftime.

But five minutes after the break, Kieran Richardson completed a rapid counterattack to begin a Fulham fightback, and Kompany inexplicably sliced the ball into his own goal in windy conditions in the 69th.

But Navas restored City's lead in the 78th when he slotted through goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg's legs.

City ripped through the Fulham defence again five minutes later as Milner netted to ensure his team rose provisionally to second place, a point behind Liverpool.

In another match, Tony Pulis tasted home defeat as Crystal Palace manager for the first time as his side was comprehensively beaten by Newcastle 3-0 at a wet and windy Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Newcastle have racked up impressive away victories at Tottenham and Manchester United in recent weeks and it was Yohan Cabaye, the returning match-winner from Old Trafford, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute.

The France international was recalled after missing the draw against Southampton due to suspension and his deflected strike set Newcastle on their way.

Palace enjoyed their best spell of possession following Cabaye's effort but went 2-0 down when Danny Gabbidon turned a dangerous cross past his own goalkeeper shortly before half time.

Newcastle dominated the second half and grabbed a third in the 86th, courtesy of a late penalty from substitute Hatem Ben Arfa.

Also, Peter Crouch scored a second-half winner on Saturday to give Stoke a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and put Mark Hughes' side firmly in mid-table of the Premier League.

Crouch set up Stoke's first goal as well, knocking the ball down for Charlie Adam, who slotted it into the net in the 51st. Libor Kozak equalised in the 66th, taking advantage of Erik Pieters' soft headed backpass. But Crouch netted the winner from close range four minutes later after Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan misjudged a cross, extending Stoke's unbeaten home record to six games.

Stoke leapfrogged Villa in the standings to provisionally climb to 10th with 21 points from 17 rounds. Villa are two points behind.

Norwich City drew 0-0 at Sunderland.
