THE first round of the A-League saw a historic first of its own as goals flowed, while the draw was the most common result across five riveting fixtures.

It’s A-League Stats Insider!

AN A-LEAGUE FIRST
The nets bulged across Australia’s top flight as the world’s longest offseason finally came to a close.

In fact, every single club across the land enjoyed the elation of opening their account for the new campaign. It was the first time in A-League history, across 14 seasons, that every team has scored in the opening round of a season.

Additionally, it was just the fourth time that Round 1 has seen three or more draws – but the first time ever that all three have finished 1-1.

History has been made!

DEBUTANTS FIND THE NET
There was a fair share of success over the weekend for some of the league’s new boys.

With a range of fresh signings on show across the league, some fared better than others.

English striker Adam Le Fondre became the first Sydney FC player to score on debut since the man he replaced – Bobo – found the net at the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

While the Melbourne derby saw two first-gamers trade blows to kick-start the clash, Keisuke Honda was just the sixth Victory player to score on debut, while Ritchie De Laet was just the fourth City player to achieve the same feat.

ADELAIDE FINALLY BREAK SYDNEY
When Scott Galloway netted his fourth ever A-League goal to put his team ahead of Sydney FC in the season opener, he also broke a ridiculous Reds drought.

It was the first time in seven matches they had found the net against the Sky Blues, and it had been 930 days – or 630 minutes of football – since Bruce Djite scored their most recent in 2015-16.

KEOGH’S PERTH OMEN
Andy Keogh is Perth Glory’s lucky charm at home.

If the Irishman scores at nib Stadium, Perth don’t lose.

He struck the opener in the draw against the Wanderers, extending the streak to 18 games he’s scored at the ground without the Glory losing.

Now that’s a good omen.

GOAL STREAKS
While Adam Taggart missed a host of chances against the Mariners in Round 1, he also managed to find the back of the net. And in doing so, the new Roar signing scored for the fourth match in a row – the first time he’s done so since 2016-17 and just the third time in his career.

Melbourne City young gun Riley McGree is on a similarly fruitful run.

The teen star scored with his first touch against the Victory, and extended his run to five goals in his past four A-League games.
