When an embarrassing defeat looked inevitable, the world champions turned to their 19-year-old starlet to turn the game on it’s head - and that he did.

Meanwhile, a Spanish sensation has continued his incredible run of form in front of goal to help his side to an emphatic victory.

Here’s a wrap of all the international action!

FRANCE 2-2 ICELAND
Kylian Mbappe inspired a fightback from world champions France as they rallied from two goals down at home to earn a 2-2 draw with Iceland on Thursday.

Birkir Bjarnason swept Iceland ahead from the edge of the area on 30 minutes, and Kari Arnason’s excellent second-half header doubled their lead in Guingamp.

But Mbappe, brought on as a substitute for the final half-hour, gave France a lifeline when his shot was saved and then inadvertently turned in by Iceland defender Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward levelled from the penalty spot in the 90th minute after Kolbeinn Sigthorsson handled at a corner.

POLAND 2-3 PORTUGAL
European champions Portugal sparkled despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, defeating Poland to move a step closer to the last four of the UEFA Nations League.

With young Sevilla striker Andre Silva scoring again, Portugal won 3-2 in Chorzow to take control of Group 3 of the top-tier League A in Europe’s newest competition.

Serie A’s leading scorer Krzysztof Piatek gave Poland an 18th-minute lead with his first international goal.

Portugal then equalised with a close-range effort from Silva after a poor back pass from Pizzi Fernandes in the 32nd.

The visitors made it 2-1 just before halftime with an own goal from defender Kamil Glik.

Bernardo Silva added the third goal with a long-range shot in the 52nd minute before Jakub Blaszczykowski marked his record 103rd cap for Poland by pulling one back with a low volley in the 77th.

It was the team’s third straight game without Ronaldo, who hasn’t played an international match since his transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus in the summer.

WALES 1-4 SPAIN
Luis Enrique’s Spain fired a Nations League warning to England by hammering Ryan Giggs’ woeful Wales.

Paco Alcacer scored twice while defenders Sergio Ramos and Marc Bartra also scored for the 2010 world champions on an easy night for the visitors in Cardiff.

Alcacer curled beyond Wayne Hennessey after eight minutes.

Then Ramos was left unmarked to nod in Suso’s free-kick before Alcacer capitalised on Harry Wilson’s sliced clearance to make it three.

Bartra grabbed the fourth to inflict Wales’ heaviest defeat since the 6-1 humiliation against Serbia in September 2012.

Alcacer has now netted nine times in 203 minutes for club and country this season following his first-half brace.

It was the worst possible start for boss Giggs and Wales on their return to the Principality stadium for the first time since March 2011.
