Newcastle Knights prop Jacob Saifiti is in hospital and facing several months out with injury after an altercation with the brother of Kangaroos and NSW skipper Boyd Cordner, according to a report.

The Newcastle Heraldreports police are investigating the incident that’s alleged to have occurred between Saifiti and Central Newcastle football Dane Cordner outside a Newcastle’s Greenroof hotel early on Sunday morning.

The report said Saifiti was knocked cold by a punch and suffered a suspected broken leg after falling awkwardly.

The Herald reported a large number of Knights players had been out attending the farewell for Super League-bound former teammate Luke Yates, while Central players were out celebrating a former teammate’s engagement.

The Knights are yet to make comment on the alleged incident.
