Eagles back Brad Sheppard to miss finals with hamstring injury
West Coast has ruled out Brad Sheppard for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury suffered against Collingwood on Saturday.
Running at full tilt, Sheppard was pushed off balance after hacking the ball out of mid-air and immediately clutched at his left leg.
Vision showed the 27-year-old screaming in agony on the interchange bench as he was assessed by physios.
The club confirmed Sheppard would be sidelined for 8-12 weeks, with scans today revealing damage to the hamstring tendon.
West Coast is yet to determine whether surgery is required.
Typically durable, Sheppard was playing his 95th consecutive AFL game - the longest current streak of any Eagle and fourth-longest in the competition.
His absence opens the door for reliable defender and popular clubman Will Schofield to make his return.
Speaking after his team’s 16-point win, Simpson described dropping Schofield ahead of the finals as gut-wrenching.
“Telling Schofield he wasn’t going to play was I think the hardest thing I’ve done as coach,” Simpson said.
“The way he’s handled it is first class so we’ve got some really good leaders in that space.”
West Coast will host the winner of Friday’s clash between Hawthorn and Melbourne in a fortnight’s time.
