DANIEL Ricciardo is in for another disappointing weekend in Brazil according to teammate Max Verstappen, who believes the Red Bulls will struggle at Interlagos.

The Milton Keynes-based team went into Mexico expecting to do well given the track’s altitude, and were on for a one-two had Ricciardo’s car not picked up a terrible smoking habit towards the end of the race which caused him to pull out.

Conversely to Mexico though, Red Bull have historically not done well in Brazil, with the team managing only a solitary podium since 2014, which was Verstappen’s stunning drive in 2016 where he passed 11 cars in 16 laps in the wet to finish third.

However, Verstappen fears that may have been a once-off and Red Bull could be back to enduring a tough weekend in the RB14 at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.

“In general Interlagos doesn’t suit our car that well, but after finishing on the podium there in 2016 and winning last week in Mexico, anything can happen in the race,” said Verstappen. “I’ve had some great battles and overtakes there and I’m hoping for another exciting race.”

Verstappen can still claw a fourth-place finish in the world championships before the end of the season and hopes the Brazilian crowds can help him do just that.

“The Brazilian fans are so loud and because the narrow starting grid is so close to the grandstand you can hear them cheering when you’re sat on the grid,” he added.
