COLLINGWOOD star Caitlin Thwaites says she has no plans to join a trio of retiring teammates anytime soon as she prepares to mark a major milestone on Saturday night.

The Magpies goal shooter will play her 200th national league game against Queensland Firebirds in a match that also doubles as a special occasion for retiring teammates Sharni Layton, Erin Bell and Shae Brown, who are set to step out for the last time in Super Netball.

While Thwaites, who turns 32 in December, does not have a contract for next year she plans to add plenty more games to her tally after another impressive season, which has yielded 520 goals at almost 91 per cent accuracy.

“We’re yet to work though that sort of stuff,” Thwaites said of contract talks.

“I will be 32 soon but I’m still planning on playing on for another couple of years, so we’ll see where I end up further down the track.”

The Magpies enter the final-round match with just three wins, the campaign not having gone to plan. However, one of those wins came against the Firebirds by five goals in Round 6, providing confidence the side can finish on a high.

“We’re really focusing on finishing off things the way we want to as a group and that, for us, is getting out there, playing some really good netball, enjoying ourselves and celebrating three people who have contributed so much to the game,” Thwaites said.

“If that results in a win that would be really amazing for our group because I think we deserve to finish on a high and we beat the Firebirds down in Tasmania earlier in the year so we’ve definitely got that belief we can do it.”

Fifth-placed Melbourne Vixens meet Sunshine Coast Lightning in a crunch game at Hisense Arena on Sunday where both sides’ finals hopes will be on the line.
