Racing Victoria chairman Brian Kruger wants Racing Australia to have more clout in the future and would be happy to support any move for this to happen.

Kruger said he would be happy for RV to relinquish some state based powers in order to strengthen the national body.

“For me, having a consistent set of national rules and a Racing Australia-type body to actually govern those rules of racing is absolutely an area we need to look at.

“We think it’s important to have a national body that has some teeth in areas like that,” Kruger said on RSN on Wednesday morning.

RV and Racing New South Wales have been at odds over the use of Regu-mate and also the introduction of the new $7.5 million race The Golden Eagle.

Kruger also said he didn’t think it was a great idea to have The Golden Eagle introduced on Derby Day.

“I personally don’t think it’s a great idea to have these big prizemoney races in different states on marquee days in other states,” he said.

He also added he didn’t think there was much innovation involved in the new race.

Kruger also announced increases to Listed races and Group 3 races.

Listed races will increase from $120,000 to $140,000 minimum and Group 3 races from $150,000 to a $160,000 minimum.
