Deklann Wynne though he had tackled Mexico's Hirving Lozano cleanly in the 28th minute of New Zealand's 2-1 defeat to El Tri on Saturday night, but referee Jair Marrufo and his crew thought differently.

Upon seeing Lozano's boot in the box and consulting his assistant, Marrufo blew his whistle for a penalty, which Giovani dos Santos converted to give Mexico a lead.

Frustratingly for New Zealand, the All Whites found an equalizer, but that penalty would come back to haunt them after Marco Fabian found a second for Mexico to give them the win.
