The in-form Adelaide Lightning is shooting for its sixth win in a row as it travels to Melbourne to face the Boomers on Sunday.

The team is having a purple passage despite fears over its future, with the club still on the hunt for a major benefactor who can guarantee the licence’s future.

It has not affected the players’ form: they made if five in a row against the UC Capital on Friday night with a whopping margin of 20 points.

US import Kayla Alexander and fellow WNBA player Nia Coffey were outstanding.

Alexander helped herself to a double-double as she shot 20 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and also had three assists.

The lively Coffey wasn’t far behind with 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

“They both played really well but I think it was a team effort to be honest,” coach Chris Lucas said afterwards. “The strength of our team has to be one person can be up one day and down the next but that needs to be a strength, not a negative.”

To Lucas, it was more about team consistency.

He got it: four of the five starters finished with double figures and there were other things that jumped out at him on the stat sheet.

“I’m really pleased,” Lucas said. “Five people in double figures and 26 assists.

“A really good team effort.

“I thought they just did a great job.”
