Xiaomi continues to crank out Android Oreo updates. In the last few weeks, they’ve updated the Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Xiaomi Mi Note 2. They started recruiting beta testers for Android Oreo on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 back in January. Now, we’re finally seeing the first MIUI 9 Global Stable Beta update. The Mi Mix 2 was released late last year as the follow-up to the original Mi Mix.

The most noteworthy feature is the nearly bezel-less design (with no notches). Some of the specs include a 5.9-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 8/6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, 12MP camera, and 3,400 mAh battery. It was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. The specs are still great and the design remains to be very striking, so we’re glad to see some Oreo love.

This update brings the phone up to Android 8.0 and includes the December 2017 security patch. The MIUI version is MIUI 9 Global 8.1.18 Beta. The update did not come with a changelog, but we can expect similar features from the other Xiaomi devices that have been updated to Oreo. Keep in mind that this is a beta release, so bugs will be present.

To install the update on your Mi Mix 2 you must be coming from the Global Beta 7.12.21 or you will get an error. You can grab the 7.12.21 version as well as the 8.1.18 version from the link below. Go to go to Settings > About phone > Update > Select update file and select the appropriate file. If that method doesn’t work, you may need to unlock your bootloader, flash TWRP, and install the update that way
