There's an update to Cortana for Android that finally lets users do one simple thing: make it the default assistant instead of Google Now.

Microsoft began its private beta for Cortana for Android last month, and while it came with all the features it has on Windows Phone, users couldn't assign it to the the home button shortcut, as the built in Google Now assistant was permanently set to be the primary assistant. According to Microsoft-News, however, Microsoft has since updated Cortana to version 1.0.0.204, giving it the ability to completely replace Google Now.

Cortana for Android is still missing a few features, such as voice activation that'll let users say "Hey Cortana" to initiate it, but Microsoft has said that it will continue to roll out updates "over the coming months" that will add more features and functionality.

Anyone interested in joining the beta can look here for more information on how to do so. Initially, only a select few were given access, but as the beta progresses, more people may get the invite.
