T-Mobile was the first US-based operator to announce it will carry the Lumia 640 mid-range Windows Phone handset.

However, the Magenta carrier won't be the first to sell the smartphone and that's already a fact since Microsoft Lumia 640 is now available for purchase in the US at Cricket.

The bad news is Lumia 640 won't arrive at T-Mobile too soon, so those waiting for the smartphone will certainly be disappointed to know that the carrier has just confirmed the device won't be available until July 16.

Even though Microsoft has already listed the Lumia 640 on its online store as “Coming Soon,” it looks like that won't happen as soon as Windows Phone fans would want.

T-Mobile's official Twitter account replied to a customer asking when exactly the Lumia 640 will be available for purchase, by indicating July 16 as the date when the smartphone is going to be released via all channels.

We sincerely hope that that's a simple mistake (typo) and that T-Mobile wanted to say the Lumia 640 is set to hit shelves in June 16, but they would have backtracked on that statement immediately and pulled the tweet.

Cricket offers the smartphone for only $130 outright

That being said, it really looks like T-Mobile will launch the Microsoft Lumia 640 about two months from now, which is much later than we have anticipated.

For those unaware, Microsoft Lumia 640 comes with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box, which means it packs a few extra features and improvements over the rest of the handsets that ship with Windows Phone 8.1.

Aside from that, the smartphone is pretty decent when it comes to specs. It sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

In addition, Lumia 640 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Last but not least, the handset packs a 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1-megapixel camera in the front.
