Samsung has reportedly opted to launch its Galaxy S5 smartphone at a lower price point than originally intended.

A leading mobile service provider has convinced the company to release the handset with a lower price tag than the Galaxy S4's at launch, according to Bloomberg.
The move is said to have been adopted to compete with high-end handsets from the likes of Apple and HTC, as well as cheaper alternative from manufacturers such as Huawei and ZTE.

The publication's sources also backed up rumours that the device will feature a 5.2-inch screen and a fingerprint sensor, but was unable to confirm whether this will be located within the home button or display panel.

Previous rumours suggest the Galaxy S5 will feature a QHD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera with 1080p video playback and recording, and a 3000mAh battery.

Samsung will unveil the handset at the Mobile World Congress on February 24.
