After 16 years Steve Zadesky is leaving Apple, reigniting talk about its rumored electric car project.

Zadesky once worked at Ford Motor Company before making the jump to Apple to work on the iPod and iPhone. The Wall Street Journal reports that Zadesky was also the head of his former company's as-yet-unconfirmed electric car project — said to be codenamed Project Titan.

Rumors of the hardware manufacturer's secret division have swirled for some time. In 2015, however, those rumors swelled. The WSJ itself helped spark rumors of an Apple automotive division early last year, while later it was said that the Apple car will debut in 2019.

Just this year it came out that Apple registered three car-related domains.

Zadesky's departure, meanwhile, is said to be for personal reasons unrelated to his performance. Though it's important to note that his departure, as well as his speculative role, are still unconfirmed. As of this article the executive still styles himself as a VP of iPod and iPhone product design on LinkedIn.
