Microsoft has started rolling out firmware updates for Lumia devices enrolled in the Windows Insider program, and beginning today, there’s no need to switch to the Production ring anymore.

As announced in late February, Microsoft is now shipping firmware updates to insiders too, but previously, in order to get these new versions, users had to switch to the Production ring and then go back to their original ring after installation was complete.
But this all changes today, as Microsoft will automatically push available firmware updates to devices enrolled in the Windows Insider program, without the need to change rings anymore.
“All firmware updates for Win10 devices will be auto-published for Insiders. This allows us to deliver on our goal of eliminating the gap in time between when firmware is available for Retail users and Windows Insiders, as well as eliminating the manual steps that were previously required (switching to the Production ring),” Microsoft has revealed in an announcement today.
No other changes required to get firmware updates The company then goes on to explain that this is a feature the company has been working on for many months before releasing it to users, so it has praised the feedback received from users to make it happen.
“These changes have been several months in the making, and a big thank you goes to the Insiders for the continued feedback and suggestions that have helped guide these changes. It is our hope that this new process enables you to stay up-to-date with firmware updates while making it a simple process to receive them,” the company says.
If you’ve already installed the latest firmware update for your device by switching to the Production ring, there’s no new version available at this point, but more updates will be released in the future, and you won’t have to do anything to get them.
