The iPhone XI's huge camera bump just appeared in another leak

iPhone XI & XI Max CAD-based renders

As crazy as it sounds, the design of Apple’s iPhone XI and XI Max first leaked way back in January. At the time, the leak was far from confirmed – and pretty shocking considering the iPhone XS line wasn’t even four months old – but as time has gone on numerous reports have corroborated it.

Most recently, a set of renders courtesy of tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer lent further credence to the whole design. And today, lending more weight to the rumors, a new set of iPhone XI and XI Max cases has surfaced.

The huge camera bump is looking increasingly likely

Coinciding perfectly with previous leaks, the silicone cases visible below include huge cut-outs for the large camera modules that are expected to grace the rear of Apple’s next-gen premium iPhones. According to rumors, these devices will include a total of three rear cameras, all of which are expected to bring 12-megapixel resolutions to the table. However, they won’t share the same functionalities.

The one situated in the top-left corner should be the primary camera, while the one positioned directly below will likely boast a 2x telephoto zoom lens. The third sensor, on the other hand, will apparently adopt a super-wide-angle lens. Also present as part of the setup should be a quad-LED flash and a microphone, which sit above and below the third camera respectively.

Looking at the remaining areas of the phones, the cases point towards the presence of an elongated power button along the right side of the flagships and separate power keys over on the left. Additionally, the dummy unit used for the cases suggests the mute switch will indeed receive a slight redesign.

Towards the bottom of the cases, a cut-out for Apple’s proprietary Lightning port is present alongside slits for the microphone and bottom-firing speaker holes. Once again, there should be more holes on the right side of the Lightning connector than on the left. Today's leak doesn't reveal much about the front of the iPhone XI series, but it does corroborate the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch panels that are expected.

Bigger batteries, a new processor, and iOS 13

Aside from the physical changes listed above, Apple’s next flagships are also expected to introduce some rather big upgrades on the inside. Like every other year, the smartphones are set to arrive powered by a newer chip which, in this case, should be called the Apple A13. It’s unclear at the moment if the RAM count will be increased, but rumor has it Apple will upgrade the batteries drastically.

Specifically, the iPhone XI Max may include a battery of up to 3,650mAh, while the regular iPhone XI could ship with a 3,322mAh cell. For reference, the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XS include 3,174mAh and 2,658mAh batteries respectively. While on the topic of batteries, it’s also worth pointing out that the iPhone XI series may support reverse wireless charging, just like Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup. This should give AirPods and Apple Watch owners the option of charging them with their phones.

Many other changes are to be expected as part of iOS 13 too. According to a recent leak, the software will introduce a dedicated Dark Mode along with new animations, bug fixes, and speed improvements which will benefit all compatible iPhones, regardless of their age. Many apps and features are also reported to be receiving updates as part of the upcoming release. These should include the Mail, Safari, and Maps apps as well as Health and Home. Also set to receive updates are the keyboard and iMessage.
