We first heard about the Huawei Mate 8 back in May, when we were told that the new phablet was set for release in July.

Well, the thing is the company has had its hands full up until now, so it probably hasn’t got around to launching the product yet. Not so long ago, Huawei unveiled the Honor 7, which has recently started shipping to international consumers.

Still, Huawei doesn’t seem to have forgotten about the Mate 8, and this week we get fresh information regarding the device. As Asian weblog Mobile Dad reports, Huawei has started sending out invites to an event scheduled for September 2, which is supposed to bring “a taste of flagship.”

You have probably connected the dots already: the Mate 8 phablet is bound to be announced during the IFA 2015 tradeshow in Berlin, Germany.

The teaser doesn’t offer any additional info about the Mate 8, but at least we saw the device leak out in a couple of images a few months back.

Purported specs of the Huawei Mate 8

We also know some of the specs the phablet will come bundled with thanks to previous rumors. Although so far Huawei has kept away from QHD displays, motivating that they are useless and a battery hog, with the upcoming Mate 8, the company is expected to adhere to the industry standard.

Which means the handset will arrive with a 6-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels). Under the hood should live a homegrown HiSilicon 950 chipset that accommodates a quad-core Cortex A53 processor and another quad-core Cortex A72 CPU clocked at 2.4GHz.

The octa-core processor will be complemented by a Mali-T880 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM. Huawei Mate 8 will pack 32GB of built-in memory, but users will be able to further expand it up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The smartphone should also take advantage of a 16MP camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording, while on the front, there will be a very impressive 8MP selfie shooting snapper.

Last but not least, the phone might take advantage of a fingerprint scanner located on the back. What do you think about it?
