Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro get certified with Android 9 Pie on board
The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are currently on track for a release sometime in October and with about two months to go, the duo has received their official certifications in Europe thanks to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
Following in the footsteps of previous EEC listings, relatively little is revealed about Huawei’s smartphones other than their commercial names and model numbers – the Huawei Mate 20 uses the number HMA-L29 and the Mate 20 Pro goes by LYA-L29. However, it does confirm which version of Android is on board and, to little surprise, it turns out the upcoming flagship duo will ship with Android 9 Pie straight out of the box. As is typical with Huawei launches, the software included will not be stock Android. Instead, the two devices will make use of the brand’s upcoming EMUI 9.0. Currently, however, it’s unclear what kind of UI modifications and extra features this will bring. After all, the company isn’t set to unveil its new UI until the beginning of September at IFA in Berlin.
As revealed recently, Huawei’s next two flagship models will build upon the design debuted by the P20 series earlier on this year with an even smaller notch that is just big enough to house the necessary sensors up front such as the selfie camera. On the rear, however, things will change drastically thanks to a new module in the middle that will include a 40-megapixel main camera, a secondary 20-megapixel monochrome sensor, a telephoto lens, and a dual-tone LED flash.
In addition to the Mate 20, the upcoming Huawei Y9 (2019) also received its certification in the region with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. Nevertheless, this certification was more unexpected due to the fact that the current Y9 (2018) only made its official debut back in March.
