Google releases 4 "at a glance" Android Wear commercials
Google-releases-4-at-a-glance-Android-Wear-commercials.jpg
As we talked about yesterday in regards to whether Apple should release the iWatch sooner or later, the big worry for Apple has to be Android Wear. The smartwatch market still hasn't sorted itself out; manufacturers haven't settled on what a smartwatch should be, and users don't know exactly why they would need one. Wearables need a platform to take the reins and point the way forward. Google is doing just that with Android Wear and its tenets of quick, relevant, glanceable information, and voice commands.
So, it shouldn't be a surprise that those are the themes in four new Android Wear commercials that Google has released. There are really three short spots for Android Wear, showing different scenarios with glanceable info (traffic alerts), and voice commands (Google search and texting). The fourth spot is basically just a mashup of the other three with another feature tossed in (incoming call alerts). The shorter spots all feature the LG G Watch, but the longer one also includes the Samsung Gear Live and the unreleased Moto 360.
The commercials are well done, and show some useful times when it would be easier to interact with a smartwatch rather than pulling out your phone. The major exception is obviously the incoming call feature, because the answered call isn't handled with the watch, but rather through the phone. Another interesting note is that the commercials do little to hide the fact that the Gear Live and G Watch look very large and silly on women's wrists. Maybe the Moto 360 will help with that, but Android Wear definitely needs some hardware for women.
