Gionee unveiled the Marathon M4 just a few days ago, and during today’s press event, the Chinese company has lifted the veil off yet another device, Marathon M5, which is the first phone to arrive with a dual-battery setup.

We’ve came across the M5 before, as Gionee teased the phone in a photo that got us really excited at some point. Well, today, the handset goes official with a total battery capacity of 6,020 mAh (a duo with 3,010 mAh capacity each).

Gionee claims the new phone boasts the larger battery in the world and they are correct. Even so, the little-known Doogee S6000 we told you about a few days ago also bundles a 6,000 mAh power box.

Going back to the Marathon M5, the phone also comes with an extreme mode where 5% of the battery life can ensure up to 62 hours of standby. Moreover, the company added dual charging chips inside the device for fast charging (as seen at GMS Arena).

The device maker is avidly concentrating on power management with this device and says the phone can be used as a powerbank as well, to charge two phones at the same time.
The Gionee Marathon M5 impresses only in terms of battery

Even with such a chunky battery setup, Gionee has managed to keep the phone quite sleek, as the M5 boasts a profile of 8.5 mm / 0.33 inches.

Now that we have settled that the phone will be able to deliver superb battery life, we can move on to talk about the other specifications.

Sadly, they are not so advanced as the battery and power-management system. The handset arrives with a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card).

Strangely enough, we’re not being told what kind of processor powers up the gizmo, but we expect it to be at least of the quad-core variety.

The phone also packs an acceptable 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 5MP selfie shooter. On top of that, the phone delivers dual SIM support and 4G LTE.

The Gionee Marathon M5 should make it out on the market starting June 25 for an equivalent $370 / €326, but you probably won’t see it arrive on the international market.
