Just over the last few months, we've seen Dark Mode come to the Android version of YouTube and Android Messages; Google says that the Android Phone app will be getting the feature very soon. With the ability to change the UI on an app from having dark print on a white background to having white print on a dark background, you can save your eyes from getting irritated and tired, especially when there is no light. With a very bright white background shining into your eyes during the night, or when the lights are out, it can feel like your retinas are melting. In addition, there are some who enjoy the look of Dark Mode regardless of whether the sun or moon is out.

With more apps getting Dark Mode, a tweet from WABetaInfo tells us that Dark Mode for the WhatsApp iOS and Android messaging apps is in the works. The site often does teardowns on the messaging app's latest APK, which can often feature strings of code that give hints to upcoming new features. Unfortunately, we have no idea when WhatsApp users will be able to start saving their eyesight.

If you want to get an early crack at Dark Mode for WhatsApp, your best bet is to sign up as a beta tester for the app. We just installed the latest beta update for the Android app and it did not include Dark Mode. However, you can be sure that when WhatsApp is ready to add the feature, beta testers will get the first shot at it.
